About the Metro
The Metro Building is a vacant 70,000 sq. ft former factory located at the corner of South Prospect Street and Greenkill Avenue in Midtown Kingston. It was purchased by the NoVo Foundation in May of 2022.
The core intention behind The Metro is to offer a safe, supportive space for young people to regain a sense of hope and imagination, to learn and discover what fills them with purpose, and, ultimately, to have a real choice to stay in their hometown, if they wish. In particular, the Metro will be a space to gain hands-on education, training, and career opportunities, with an emphasis on the trades, local production, and the new economy. Located within The Metro will be a 15,000 sq. ft. Fabrication Center, which will offer access to new technologies such as 3D printing, as well as traditional tools for woodwork, metal work, fabrics, etc.
August 2023 – Construction Update!
The geothermal drilling is complete. Contractors have dug thirty-two wells down to a depth of 400-ft. In addition, all of the underground loops to the building and testing of the geothermal loops have been completed. The parking lot is being repaired with sand bedding and back filling where the wells were constructed.
What is happening at the site?
The next step in The Metro’s renovation is the development of its geothermal heating and cooling system. Geothermal technology harnesses the earth’s constant temperature for an abundant source of clean energy. The geothermal drilling will take place in The Metro’s parking lot and is anticipated to start the first week in May and last approximately 8 weeks.
Who can I reach out to with questions?
